Caladiums appear on log

Although we haven't had any heavy rains this season, water in any quantity brings about miracles in the world of plants. The caladiums are newcomers to the flora making a home on the old piquiá log described in previous posts. Notice the large fern frond to the left. Remember when it was only a nodule on the rhizome? And then a fiddle head? Less visible is the Portuguese Lace fern just behind the frond.

I love caladiums. In Bolivia, the red ones like those in the photo were called "Heart of Mary." (Corazon de Maria
