Tour operators for many of the cruise ships coming to Santarem offer Bosque Santa Lucia as an option for a walking tour in the forest. More often than not they use buses from a company called Cidade de Belterra because the drivers of these vintage buses have experience driving over muddy roads. There are only 3 kilometers of dirt road between the BR-163 highway and the Bosque, but it can be slippery and there's normally one or more gigantic mud holes quite capable of bringing any vehicle to a very wet stop. If anything can get through these obstacles, count on the old buses from Cidade de Belterra.
