Tapajós River, Alter do Chão
It's difficult to talk about the Tapajós River and tropical savanna without mentioning Alter do Chão. This small village is located on the banks of the Tapajós River and Lago Verde, alias Green Lake. Some people refer to Alter do Chão as the Caribbean of the Amazon because it attracts tourists around the world, especially the beach enthusiasts. Referring to the image, the Tapajós River is off to the left. It's 20 kilometers wide at this point. Green Lake is off to the right but empties into the Tapajós River. The village is just back of us.
