Mararu - Açaí palms
A change of pace is always good for us from time to time. Today we were invited to an end-of- the-year party for employees of a large department store here in Santarém called AC Variedades. What interested me, aside from the social event and friendship, was the environment where the party took place. It was in Mararu, a community strung out along a beautiful creek running through tropical savanna. I dare say that all dwellers of this community take pleasure in harvesting açaí (Euterpe oleracea) fruit from the palms that grow naturally on the edge of the creek. Given that they love water, it's the perfect environment for them.
