Mararu - wooden fences

Towards the end of my walk in Mararu, a small village about six miles from Santarém, I came to divisions of properties. The cost of building a wooden fence of this quality indicates more interests than the normal "this is mine" demonstration of ownership. Note the "white soils" off to the right. They are typical of the sandy soils around the Tapajós River region.
