Pupunha fruit, continued
Two or three weeks back I posted some entries on the pupunha fruit (Bactris gasipaes). This delicious palm fruit is still being sold in the market places of Santarém, as well as in the streets. The lady in the image brought her tray of prepared pupunhas into the São Camilo Hospital, where she sold quite a number of them to patients and staff. They were still relatively hot from the boiling in salted water. I bought three sacks, two for the receptionists and one for my wife, who works in the hospital.
