One of our cruise ship visitors must have brought this wasp nest in from the woods because I found it on the ground close to where the bus had been parked. I was about to throw it away but when I noticed that one side of nest was open, exposing a series of combs. I've seen many of these nests hanging from the trees but I had never seen the inside of one. It's like an apartment building of several stories without windows! The entrance to the building is a small round hole at the bottom of the structure.

Bell wasp nest
One of our cruise ship visitors must have brought this wasp nest in from the woods because I found it on the ground close to where the bus had been parked.
