Saint's altar in Cupuaçu pod

Local artisans in the region are ingenious at manufacturing beautiful objects from natural resources, like this cupuaçu pod (Theobroma grandiflorum) shown in the attached image. The depicted saint (given to Áurea by Jeremy and Maddy Campbell) is Nossa Senhora de Conceição, patron saint for Santarém. The base of the altar is made from a piece of Brazil nut pod (Bertholetia excelsa). Coming next, a picture of cupuaçu in its natural state of being.

While visiting Santarem, I remember visiting one of the artisan/craft shops-- The crafts were incredible. I wish I had purchased more to bring home, but at the time, I didn't think I could fit anymore in my luggage!
