Mariri (Banisteriopsis caapi) vine II
Mestre Joaquim from the União do Vegetal church, located on the outskirts of Santarém, has visited Bosque Santa Lúcia in the past and he has reciprocated the gesture many times over. For one reason or another we never found the time to accept his invitation. Today was the day. We joined him, his family and brotherhood at a fund raising luncheon at the UDV center. It was a great lunch but even greater was the opportunity to see their many trees and plants, including the mariri (Banisteriopsis caapi) vines and chacrona (Psychotria sp) plants. I have both of these at the Bosque but they were planted more recently. Seeing the mariri vines, as in the attached image, is a look into the future. It's exciting to think that those puny little vines I planted at the Bosque will be this large.
