Only meters from the back porch of the Bosque reception center, the trail leads us down an ancient creek bed, which is referred to in Portuguese as a
baixada. I've never seen running water there, but part of the year it becomes flooded. Since the water can reach depths of 2 meters, it was necessary to build a bridge in order to get from one side to another. Last week I walked under the bridge and followed the creek/lake bed over to the dirt road. The soil was wet from recent rains, but no water had accumulated under the bridge. Nevertheless, I found many fungi taking advantage of old rotten wood to show off their beauty.
