I was driving out of the Fundação Esperança parking lot last week when I spotted this huge and beautiful iguana making its way across the sports quad. It's one of the largest I've ever seen here in the Amazon.
I didn't realize that iguana lived in the amazon region, I always think of them on desert islands, dry dusty places. there is no point of reference - estimate his size please.
I have been traveling for nearly 2 months - finally on the 8th I will be back in Rio - as usual while in the USA I miss Brasil and when there miss here. doomed
Steven Alexander has been in Santarém since 1979, the year he joined the Fundação Esperança staff. In December of the same year he received the title of Honorary Citizen of Santarém, an award presented by the Santarém Chamber of Councilmen/women. Steven graduated from undergraduate school at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky. He did his graduate degree in public health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is author of the book, Santarém - Riverboat Town. Steven and his wife, Áurea, are owners of Bosque Santa Lúcia, where they conduct environmental education and eco-tours.
