And this colorful bug? A treehopper, I suspect. In the image it looks to be as large as an elephant, but it's less than an inch. P.S. See Ted MacRae's comment on this post. You'll be surprised, as I was.

That, my friend, is a moth - the covering of scales is revealed in the full-size photo. Hard to say what family, but in North America there are some members of the Limacodidae (slug caterpillars) that have a similar look.
