The Legendary Green Frog
Photographed at Bosque Santa Lúcia some years ago. Considered to be a rare find. I took several shots and I believe that I've never published this one.

Planting trees
On June 17, Maureen Duncan, representing the San Diego Rotary Club, sponsored a tree planting project at Bosque Santa Lúcia. Some 25 Rosewood trees were planted in the area across from the main entrance to the reception center. Some of Marina's students from her visit here ten years ago participated in the event. Obrigado!

Amazon on fire - 18 February 2018
This photo was taken from downtown Santarém, where the Tapajos and Amazon Rivers come together on their way to the Atlantic Ocean. The meeting of the waters is spectacular, as are the sunsets this time of the year.

Rain ....... and more rain
A flooded bridge is nothing new this time of the year but unfortunately this week a falling tree destroyed the bridge. It was bad news for us because the bridge is the main connection between the Bosque Santa Lúcia Reception Center and the main forest trails. We were able to get some groups to the forest via another route but the mud got so bad, we had to abandon the effort. Thankfully, there's a lot see in and around the Reception Center. Thanks to our guides and woodsmen, we were able to complete the tours.
Legendary Muiraquitã frog
One of our woodsmen at Bosque Santa Lúcia discovered this juvenile frog in the nearby forest at Bosque Santa Lúcia. It's a very rare frog, maybe in extinction. Passengers from the cruise ship, VIKING SKY were indeed fortunate to see this frog. Many had seen paintings of the frog in the Santarém Museum before coming to the Bosque.

Unexpected storm at the Bosque
Given that this storm targeted only the Reception Center at Bosque Santa Lúcia, it must have dropped out of the sky in the form of a tornado. Several large trees were felled with damage to the round-house, the Casa de Caboclo and the bridge. The tree we see on the ground is a taperebá (Spondia lute)
